Whimsical is an imaginative, light tone. It is often seen in children's books. Whimsical usually involves wanting and disiring, hopes of grandeur. I speek with this sort of tone around the holidays when I think about my presents. A perfect example of whimsical is the greedy girl's song in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" when everyone is in the egg incubator. She start's singing "I want today, I want tomorrow. I want the whole world in my pocket." etc. She has a very light voice and is very dreamy. She hopes for things she knows she cannot get.
