Nostalgic is often sad, but it is wanting something back there is no possible way he or she could have. Most people miss their high school and college years and wish they could go back. Many people make mistakes they often wish they wouldn't have done. Many wish there relatives were still alive. Often it can seem more sad than a sad tone because of the yearning that it involves.
Nostalgia can easily be seen in Catcher in the Rye. Holden always has a nostalgic tone when he talks about Allie. He talks about her almost as if she was still alive, thinks about her when he is really depressed, and even keeps her stuff around. He would like nothing more than to have her back. |  |
